SECRETARIAT ADMINISTRATIVE CIRCULAR No. 31.

Subsistence allowances and recoverable expenses payable to officers engaged on official duties outside the Colony, other than study leave.

Officers engaged on official duties outside the colony for periods of not more than 60 days may receive the following subsistence allowance and

expenses.

Outside the colony except in the United Kingdom.

An accommodation allowance of $25 per night may be paid for each night an officer spends outside the colony provided the accommodation is not covered in the cost of transportation or officially provided.

3. An out-of-pocket allowance of $8 per day will be payable to cover the cost of the incidental expenses such as gratuities, losses on exchange, local telephone calls, local transport, the extra cost of meals, and similar items.

In the United Kingdom.

An accommodation allowance is payable to officers attending conferences or engaged on other official business in the United Kingdom at the following rates:-

(a) 30/- per night for cach night spent in London;

(b) 25/- per night for each night spent elsewhere than London.

In addition an out-of-pocket allowance of 7/6d. per day is payable

for all incidental expenses.

Expenses incurred for the following items for all places outside the colony are recoverable:

(i) First class railway fares for duty journeys, except that in the

United Kingdom only officers who are heads or assistant heads of departments or of equivalent status are entitled to first class railway fares for duty journeys, other officers being entitled only to third class railway fares.

(ii) Inoculation expenses.

(iii) Passport endorsement and visa fees.

Long-distance duty telephone calls.
